With three top tourist attractions, Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies at Buckfastleigh, the award winning Totnes Rare Breeds Farm at Totnes and, linking the two, the award winning South Devon Railway, Three Great Attractions, One Amazing Day has something for everyone.

See otters from around the world and stunning tropical butterflies, enjoy a one hour’s round trip along the beautiful valley of the River Dart behind a Great Western Railway steam engine* and stroke the owls, feed the red squirrels, meet the hedgehogs!

You can buy your tickets for each attraction separately. Tickets for the South Devon Railway can be purhcased in advance online or from our Booking Offices on the day (subject to availability). Tickets for the Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies and the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm can be purchased on the day from the attractions own sales desk. We regret that combined tickets are no longer available, however you can still enjoy a fabulous day out in South Devon by visiting all 3 attractions during your visit!

The South Devon Railway

The multi-award winning South Devon Railway is one of Devon’s and the West Country’s best loved tourist attractions and is the longest established steam railway in the south west, celebrating over 50 years in preservation.

The SDR is a seven mile former Great Western Railway branch line, built in 1872, which runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. We run steam trains with heritage rolling stock and offer a wonderful all day, all weather attraction for families and people of all ages.

Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies

At Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies, you can see and learn about tropical butterflies in the specially designed habitat of which you become a part. As you see the butterflies, you will feel the rainforest atmosphere that they enjoy as you see their amazing life cycle unfold.

There are three species of otter to see too, our native British otter, playful Asian short clawed otters and the large North American river otters who love to show off.

Totnes Rare Breeds Farm​

Come and stroke the owls, feed the red squirrels and meet the friendly hedgehogs at the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm. What began as a collection of farmyard rare breeds has gradually extended. You won’t find smaller sheep than the Ouessants, or more fantastic chickens. In the small animals’ corner, you can hold a guinea pig on your lap, feel the smooth skin of our corn snake and watch the crazy antics of the chipmunks.

Alongside these, you can also get close to the endangered wildlife of the English countryside, making this much more than just a petting farm.

Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies is located at Buckfastleigh station; the award winning Totnes Rare Breeds Farm is at the other end of the line adjacent to Totnes Riverside station.
