Locomotive 3803 departs Buckfastleigh

Following on from the sale of Locomotive No. 3803 and the frames of No. 2873 to the Dartmouth Steam Railway, which was announced last week, we can report that both engines departed from the South Devon Railway today, Thursday 10th February 2022.

Specialist rail-vehicle hauliers S.A. Smith were in charge of the move. The locomotives were carefully loaded onto the lorries and then snaked their way through our site and onto the A38, where they headed towards Exeter before going back down the A380 to Paignton and on to Churston (the lorries are too big to go over the bridge over our railway at Riverford which is why they have to go via Exeter).

We are sad to see 3803 leave us however we know that she will be in good hands and we hope to be able to welcome her back to visit us once returned to steam!
