With the easing of lockdown and after months tucked away in garages, owners of classic cars and motorcycles are holding a get together at Buckfastleigh Station on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September 2021. Up to 70 vehicles on each day. In addition to cars and motorcycles there will be a display of military vehicles put on by local members.
Vehicles booked to attend so far include some really interesting cars such as a 1924 19.6HP Crossley, plus a selection of pre-war and post war cars. Devon Vintage Car Club will be helping run the event, which is being organised by the South Devon Railway. Other local car clubs will be in attendance.
The Railway will also be running its usual steam operated train services on both days. Also in operation over the weekend will be the Miniature Railway, the Garden Railway with its miniature models in action and other static exhibitions including the Lee Moor Tramway Exhibition displaying one of the two Peckett shunting engines that were used up at Lee Moor when china clay was still transported by rail to the docks in Plymouth. The old signalbox, which was in use in the days when trains still went on the two miles to Ashburton, will be open and where visitors can try their hand at pulling the levers.
Our Routemaster RM1872 will also be in operation, offering round trips to Ashburton and Buckfastleigh centre.
