Railway wins South West in Bloom award
The South Devon Railway is proud to have won a prestigious horticultural award for the very first time from the Royal Horticultural Society and South West in Bloom' s 'It's Your Neighbourhood' competition.
It is the first time the SDR has entered the South West in Bloom competition!
Commenting on the award, SDR Groundsman Nic Wakeling said: "The volunteer team here have worked really hard with me over the last five years and we've grown not only in number but also in confidence about what might be achieved in the gardens at Buckfastleigh with the steam railway as the backdrop.
"I was almost given a blank canvas to work with in some places by the railway's management, and our efforts to add colour, new plantings and develop the landscaped gardens year on year have paid off with this award. The place is always brighter and lovelier with plants and flowers, and we often receive positive comments from visitors, some of whom encouraged us to enter this competition.
"It's particularly pleasing for us to have won a 'Level 4 Thriving' category from the judges for our very first entry in South West in Bloom which augurs well for the future, and reflects great credit on the whole team."
The SDR Buckfastleigh gardens team, who are almost all volunteers, comprises David, Tracy, Barbara , Richard, Simon, Leonie, Steve, Sandy, Debbie, plus a regular group from the Passmore Edwards Centre in Kathy, Becky, David, Anni and Deano.
