Raising the Standard at Easter

The South Devon Railway is raising the Standard this Easter!

British Railways Standard class 2 2-6-0 Mogul No 78019 and BR Standard class 4MT 2-6-4T No 80072 are taking centre stage at this year's Easter gala, which runs from April 6th to April 9th.

78019 is visiting from the Great Central Railway and it is believed that this is the first time a locomotive of this class has worked on the line.

80072 is based on the Llangollen Railway. Sister locomotive, No 80064, currently based on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex, worked for a short time on our line and it will be a pleasure to see a member of that class of locomotive working on the SDR again.

It will also be the first time that we have had two BR Standards working on the line at the same time.

An intensive service will operate throughout the Easter weekend. For more information on the visitors, click on the links above.
